'R20 S5 Shop Shirt' (Sumi Indigo Double Cloth)

Overshirt in a midweight double cloth that can only be hand dyed in five metre lengths at a time and requires repeated immersion and rinsing to achieve its depth of colour. First dyed with sumi (ink), then with Ryukyu indigo. Producing Ryukyu indigo involves manually cultivating the fields, growing and harvesting the plants, then soaking, fermenting, extracting, and purifying them into precipitated indigo for dyeing. This process is carried out by only a few hands, and the result is a rare and distinct shade of blue. High density, heavyweight, with a smooth, dry handle, this cloth is naturally stiff and softens with washing and wear. Woven in Aichi, Japan. Produced for MAN–TLE. Features point collar with hidden stand, full width front pockets, corozo buttons, pleated cuffs with single button closure and side seam vents. Boxy fit with generous sleeves
